Transgender Electrolysis

Here at Inskin, Altrincham we specialise in Transgender Electrolysis (MTF) and are registered with the BIAE and BUPA, as well as welcoming people wishing to have private treatment.

Not everyone wishes to fully transition but for almost all people who consider themselves to be transgender, one of the most satisfying elements for a person in the transition process is the removal of male markers.

We are extremely discreet and are fully aware of the process and aim to provide a friendly welcoming environment for everyone of every stage of the process.

The male hair pattern hair growth on face, beard and neck can be difficult to hide and cover with makeup but can be successfully and permanently removed with electrolysis.

Electrolysis is a method of removing individual hairs from the face or body.  It is the only treatment of hair removal considered to be and legally allowed to be described as permanent.

Transgender Electrolysis (MTF) is comprehensive electrolysis for permanent hair removal for males transitioning to females. We ensure correct patterns of hair removal bespoke to you as confirmed by your surgeon. We treat people from the very start of their journey of transition right up to operative stage.  Specialist electrolysis is also relevant to graft sites of females transitioning to males.

Most areas of the body can be treated with electrolysis, including the eyebrows, face, abdomen, thighs, breasts, legs and the necessary pre-operative removal of hair in the genital area

Typically a transgender who has developed to adulthood with a male body, will have a typical male facial hair pattern and strong, deep-rooted hair. A large amount of treatment will almost inevitably be required, regrowth may be strong and rapid, necessitating a relatively large amount of treatment per week to make any progress: 4 hours per week is not unusual, of which maybe half could be spent on regrowth in the early stages.

Graft Site Electrolysis

A common dilemma is to which is the best method of Transgender Electrolysis to use in a client: diathermy, or blend

The best consensus of opinion is that in general diathermy produces a quicker result, even taking into account that diathermy may give a higher regrowth rate, but most clients find diathermy more painful than blend, and generally it provokes a greater skin reaction.

Therefore, if it can be tolerated, diathermy is used where possible.. The more sensitive areas treated with blend, eg top lip.  Many people find that with appropriate pain control and after-care they can tolerate treatment entirely by diathermy. Some clients find diathermy too unpleasant and prefer the generally slower but less painful blend method throughout their treatment.

Gold plated needles are used which aids with pain control and treating extra sensitive skin.  If hormones are regularly taken, the skin will be more prone to sensitivity.  It must be said that electrolysis contributes greatly to a satisfactory outcome of reassignment surgery.

All methods of GRS place potentially hair-bearing tissue from the penis and/or scrotum in locations where hair would be undesirable and problematical (inside the vagina, under the clitoral hood, and perhaps inside the labia). For this reason, clients are well advised to seek the advice of their chosen surgeon as to which parts must be epilated, and then to obtain the necessary electrolysis well in advance of surgery (to allow the skin to recover).

With genital electrolysis, the technique is a little different from other body areas. Follicles are usually quite shallow and for quick results, High levels of diathermy can be used.  here, insulated needles ae used which helps to confine any tissue destruction to deeper parts of the follicle.  We also ensure that the area to be treated has the benefit of topical anaesthetic.

Transgender Wikipidia Definition:
Transgender is the state of one’s gender identity or gender expression not matching one’s assigned sex. Transgender is independent of sexual orientation; transgender people may identify as heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, etc; some may consider conventional sexual orientation labels inadequate or inapplicable to them. The definition of transgender includes:
– “Of, relating to, or designating a person whose identity does not conform unambiguously to conventional notions of male or female gender roles, but combines or moves between these.
– “People who were assigned a sex, usually at birth and based on their genitals, but who feel that this is a false or incomplete description of themselves.
– “Non-identification with, or non-presentation as, the sex (and assumed gender) one was assigned at birth.”
